Established risk factors have a large amount of scientific evidence that has clearly shown that these factors are linked to breast cancer risk.

They include:

Gender

Family history and genetic factors

Starting periods early or having a late menopause

Pregnancy

Breastfeeding

Hormone replacement therapy (HRT)

The contraceptive pill

Weight

Height

Exercise

Alcohol

Proliferative benign breast conditions

Exposure to ionising radiation
