Waiting for test results
A Triple Assessment should be available to you in a single visit to a breast cancer clinic. Results should be received within three to five working days. Some clinics may be able to give you the results on the same day that you have your tests.
In some hospitals it may take longer for results to come through.
The results of these tests may be sent to your GP or you may be asked to return to the clinic.
Waiting for results may be a worrying time for you, your family and friends. Many women have a fear of breast cancer that is quite distinct from the fear of cancer or ill health in general.
The fear of being potentially disfigured and losing a very visible part of the body so emotionally connected to sexuality and femininity should not be underestimated.
These feelings are not unusual. Some women find that it helps to talk about their concerns with those closest to them or their GP or practice nurse.
Remember, nine out of ten lumps are found to be benign - not all lumps mean cancer.
