Rights and support
People with concerns about their family history are not typical 'patients', as they are not necessarily ill. They do still, of course, have the right to: A high standard of healthcare
The National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence (NICE)'s clinical guideline on familial breast cancer states which healthcare services women with a family history should be entitled to on the NHS.Privacy of medical information
A number of organisations are currently examining the confidentiality of genetic test results with regard to other family members, employers and insurers.Good information
The information in this section of this website has been put together by Breakthrough Breast Cancer to bring together information on, or links to, important topics for those with a family history of breast cancer.Support
Support organisations do exist. However, the experience of the Breakthrough Genetics Reference Group is that those affected by a family history of breast cancer need not just support from organisations, but also the opportunity to speak to other people in a similar situation. We have included a discussion forum on this website where you can talk about your concerns. Also within "Family history"
