Goserelin [Zoladex]
Goserelin is used mainly to treat pre-menopausal women with oestrogen receptor (ER) positive breast cancer that has spread or come back (secondary breast cancer).
It is also sometimes used at an earlier stage - to stop primary breast cancer from coming back.
Goserelin blocks the production of a hormone, called luteinising hormone releasing hormone (LHRH), in the pituitary gland in the brain. LHRH stimulates the ovaries to make oestrogen. By blocking LHRH, goserelin therefore prevents oestrogen from being made and from helping breast cancer cells to grow.
