Breast prostheses
A breast prosthesis is an artificial breast form which you wear in your bra. This means that, when you’re dressed, you look the same as before your mastectomy.
You may want to wear a prosthesis while you are waiting for your reconstruction operation or you may decide to have a prosthesis fitted instead of a reconstruction.
There are many different types of prosthesis to choose from. You should be able to find one that is similar in size, shape, weight and feel to your other breast. You can also have a prosthetic silicone nipple which sticks on the prosthesis or your breast reconstruction. To find out more about breast prostheses, visit the Breast Cancer Care website.
