Robin A Weiss, is a Senior Research Fellow in the Division of Infection & Immunity at University College London. He studied biology at UCL, and has spent most of his career studying viruses associated with certain types of cancer, He was Director of the Institute of Cancer Research, Royal Marsden Hospital, 1980-1989. Robin has made significant contributions to our understanding of HIV and AIDS, including AIDS-linked cancers such as Kaposi’s sarcoma. He is currently investigating HIV vaccine development for the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, believing that prevention is ultimately better than cure. Robin has served both as President of the British Association of Cancer Research and later as President of the Society for General Microbiology. He is a Fellow of the Royal Society and a founder Fellow of the Academy of Medical Sciences. Robin has been a Trustee of Breakthrough Breast Cancer since October 2005.
