Shazia decided to volunteer for Breakthrough after her mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in order to help others with the disease. She reflects on how “sometimes you don’t realise how hard it is for the people who have to watch someone with the illness. I find that the volunteering gives me a drive and allows me to cope with my mother’s illness”.

Shazia is one of our incredible Challengers who are raising £1,000 individually and £10,000 as part of the Breakthrough Volunteer committee. She talks about her experience with Breakthrough as “ideal because it was flexible…I can fit it in with work and my personal life” and goes on to say that “the fundraising walk was really good. We had so much fun doing it and I am really looking forward to other events in the year”. At Breakthrough we are eternally grateful to active volunteers such as Shazia. Her ongoing efforts are vital in helping us change lives through research, campaigning and education and removing the fear of breast cancer for good.
