Touch Look Check

National TLC Day

Early diagnosis saves lives - the earlier breast cancer is diagnosed the better the chances of beating it. To empower all women to become breast aware, Breakthrough Breast Cancer has developed a clear and effective message, TLC – Touch Look Check.

1000s more Talk TLC...

Thanks to our supporters, who are trained and committed to ‘Talk TLC’ in their local community, 1000s more people are breast aware. They play a vital role in spreading our TLC message to as many people as possible. On 4 October they supported Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s first ‘National TLC Day’ holding eight TLC information stands across the UK.

National TLC Day was publicised by both local and national media which took our breast awareness message to thousands more people across the UK.

Talking TLC on TV

Touch Look Check

Breakthrough Breast Cancer worked in partnership with the ITV national breakfast show, Daybreak.

On Monday 3 October a film of Bernie Nolan touring our Research Centre was shown. She interviewed our researchers and chatted to supporters.

On Tuesday 4 October to promote National TLC Day, Daybreak filmed live from 1 of 8 TLC information stands held across the UK.

Touch Look Check

Most cases of breast cancer are found by women noticing unusual changes, taking the initiative and visiting their doctor. The earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chance of beating it.

What’s involved in being a Talk TLC local champion

As a Talk TLC Champion you’ll be talking TLC:

  • Informally to friends and family; and
  • By speaking to local people about breast awareness.

The role of a Talk TLC Champion is designed to be flexible so you can organise events that fit in with your life and interests. This isn’t outreach work – we won’t be asking you to give advice, training or support. Talking TLC is simply about giving people the information they need and spreading the breast awareness message.

You will be given a full day’s training to empower you with all the information you need for this role. We will support you every step of the way.

NATIONAL TLC DAY INFORMATION STANDS

Touch Look Check stand

On National TLC Day, Breakthrough Breast Cancer’s Talk TLC Champions shared our TLC message with people across the country by manning information stands in the following eight locations across the UK: Cardiff; Bristol; Kent; Croydon; Worcester; Cheshire; Edinburgh and Glasgow. Hundreds of women visited the stands to find out more about the signs and symptoms of breast cancer. Thousands more were reached through radio, press and TV covering our National TLC Day to further spread our breast awareness message. This event would not have been possible without the invaluable work of our Talk TLC Champions.

All of our Talk TLC Champions play a key role in spreading our breast awareness message helping to change lives and shape futures.
