Breakthrough Breast Cancer welcomes the Prime Minster’s commitment at the Labour Party Conference to delivering both the Government’s 2005 election promise ensuring every person with breast problems referred by their GP is seen by a specialist within two weeks as well as an extension to both the upper and lower age range for breast screening.
These commitments respond to Breakthrough's Left in the Dark and Screening Saves Lives campaigns that our supporters across the country have been raising with their MPs and local health services.
Breakthrough campaigns for the closing of the gap between the standard of breast cancer services we believe people with breast cancer have a right to expect and the reality of existing services. We work with politicians, healthcare professionals and patients, focusing on a grassroots approach in achieving our campaigning goals. These commitments respond to Breakthrough's Left in the Dark and Screening Saves Lives campaigns that our supporters across the country have been raising with their MPs and local health services.
This approach is highly respected amongst politicians and healthcare professionals and the work of our Breakthrough Campaigns & Advocacy Network (Breakthrough CAN) has been key in securing the Prime Minster’s commitment to further improving breast cancer services and potentially saving thousands more lives each year.
This Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Breakthrough is campaigning to implement the two-week waiting time for all breast referrals and supporting the extension of the NHS Breast Screening Programme.
