Be Inspired- The M&S Five Peaks Challenge
Inspired by a bike ride some of their colleagues undertook last year, a team from M&S decided to take on the Five Peaks Challenge. They raised a staggering £1 million for three charities, including Breakthrough Breast Cancer.

The Challenge
This summer saw 32 brave members of the M&S retail leadership team take on the Five Peaks Challenge, climbing the five highest peaks in the UK and Ireland over 48 sleepless hours.

The team scaled Ben Nevis (Scotland), Scaffel Pike (England), Snowden (Wales), Slieve Donard (Northern Ireland) and Carrauntoohil (Republic of Ireland). In between each peak, the team travelled in vans from peak to peak, grabbing a couple of hours sleep and some food when they could.
Support from M&S Stores
Every M&S store across the UK and Ireland supported the team by fundraising during the course of the event. At Breakthrough, we were humbled and amazed by the support from the stores who came up with some fantastic fundraising activities, including treasure hunts, a Zumba night, wine tasting, cake sales, being sponsored to quit smoking or lose weight and even auctioning a day off work! M&S head office joined in with a sponsored 40-mile-run on a treadmill in reception, which saw staff take it in turns to build up the miles – and the donations.
The Results
M&S hit their phenomenal target of £1 million! As one of the beneficiary charities, Breakthrough is extremely grateful for this support and we know it will make a real difference to our lifesaving work.
