Bowling out breast cancer for good!
Middlesex County Cricket Club has supported Breakthrough Breast Cancer since the team boldly ran out at Lord’s Cricket Ground in 2007 sporting a brand new pink twenty20 kit to help raise awareness of breast cancer. Since then the relationship has gone from strength to strength, culminating in the outstanding achievement of the club reaching a century of a different kind; raising £100,000 in their attempt to bowl out breast cancer for good.
The club has played a huge part in helping to ensure that breast cancer remains high on the health agenda. Over the past five years, Middlesex CCC has sold pink merchandise, held text-to-win competitions, raffles and auctions. Players have even donated a percentage of their ‘player of the month’ awards to the cause.
Middlesex CCC captain Neil Dexter says,
“Breast cancer can affect everyone, with one in eight women in the UK developing the disease in their lifetime. As a team we are honored to help play a part in overcoming this terrible disease for good.
We couldn’t have reached this magnificent total without the help of our incredible supporters and members, who have so generously supported our charity partnership with Breakthrough. We look forward to another successful fundraising year in 2011.”
