M&S and Breakthrough

Breakthrough is part of M&S’ ambitious Plan A, the company's 100-point eco plan helping businesses meet the needs of our changing world.

M&S was also the first high street retailer to launch its own post-surgery lingerie lines just for women who have had surgery following breast cancer.

How M&S supports us in-store

Donations on a wide range of products in October for Breast Cancer Awareness Month and April for Fashion Targets Breast Cancer, employee fundraising and its Change 4 Change scheme have seen M&S raise more than £17 million for Breakthrough to date.
Change 4 Change is M&S Money’s scheme for converting foreign and outdated currency into funds for Breakthrough. It lets you donate unwanted coins or notes at any M&S Bureau de Change in the UK - which we then convert to Sterling.

M&S Money research suggests there could be up to £2.3 billion worth of foreign currency in UK homes. So, as well as being environmentally friendly with no impact on your spending power, Change 4 Change can make a huge contribution to breast cancer research.

To donate to the project please visit your nearest M&S Bureau and use your unwanted money to make a change.

M&S - funding the Breakthrough Generations study

Every year, a percentage of the funds raised by M&S is allocated to the analysis costs of the Breakthrough Generations Study.

The Generations Study began in 2004. It will follow 100,000 women for 40 years. Over this time, scientists will compile a wide range of data about the participants including lifestyles, experiences, genetics, medical histories and much more.

The analysis of this data will reveal much about the causes of breast cancer and where preventable cases can be averted.
