Oldies but Goodies

1. Cake Sale

Whether it's in the office, with friends or your local community group, everyone loves a tasty treat. Top Tip – charge per item not per plate or even charge per entry to the bake.

2. Sweepstake

Pick any major sporting event from the Grand National, Wimbledon or The Ashes, create a sweepstake form and charge £2 to play.

3. Sponsored sacrifice

From chocolate to crisps, give up something you love for a week or month and get everyone to sponsor you for going without.

4. Auction of promises

People offer goods or services to be auctioned (eg cleaning a car, chauffeur for the day, decorating room, haircut etc.) Make sure you advertise well in advance and get an auctioneer with a loud voice.

For an example of this meet Barbara and read her story.

5. Car Boot Sale

If you've never done it before, try it you'll see why so many people enjoy car boot sales. You can sell things donated by other people too. Brand it clearly with Breakthrough Breast cancer and you will have a good excuse not to be driven down too far on price by bargain hunters.

For a twist on this, meet Linda and read her story.

6. Cover miles without moving

In the gym, in the sports section of your local department store, in the hall of a shopping mall, set yourself a target distance, get on a gym bike or rowing machine and off you go. Get sponsored, but also set up a sign saying what you are doing and have a collection bucket for the public.

For an example of this meet Dave and read his story.

7. Tombola

It's win win! People win prizes, you raise funds and everyone leaves happy.

8. Quiz Night

Whether you organise your own, or get a regular quiz night to do a charity event, it's a great way to keep it social and reach your target.

9. Competitive Edge

Whether it's 5 a side football game, a tennis tournament or Netball competition. Get fit and raise funds by organising an active fundraiser.

10. Dance the night away

Book out your local village hall and hold a dance evening, you could look into different themes, Hollywood greats, country and western....you decide.

For an example of this meet Maureen and read her story.
