Linda Painter

After being diagnosed with breast cancer, Linda Painter was encouraged to take up the £1,000 Challenge. She was able to raise the money for Breakthrough by hosting ‘Gladrags and Handbags’, a party which consisted of selling friends and family’s unused handbags.

The party was extremely successful; over 120 people attended and hundreds of bags were donated to the cause. The party consisted of a number of raffles, canapés and a jewellery sale. In total Linda was able to raise £1,800 in just two hours. She also very generously asked for donations to be given to the charity instead of gifts for her 50th Birthday. In total she’s raised over £4,200.

The secret to her successful fundraising? “I do believe that if you give something back for their money and have a good time, then they'll keep coming back, which they have done to everything I've organised since, so I'm very happy.”
