Since our research centre opened in 1999, Breakthrough has made tremendous inroads in the areas of Prevention, Diagnosis and Treatment of Breast Cancer. These advances would not have been possible without the generosity of our supporters. Thank you so much.

Breakthroughs we want to shout about!

We are PREVENTING BREAST CANCER.
•We are following 110,000 women over 40 years, so that we can pinpoint the genetic, environmental and behavioural causes of the disease.

We were hailed as making THE BIGGEST DISCOVERY IN CANCER IN 2009.
•Developed at our research centre, a new drug which has the potential to treat a third of all breast cancers, looks as though it will also be helpful for up to 80% of prostate, ovarian, skin, womb and colon cancer.

We are FINDING BETTER TREATMENTS & REDUCING SIDE EFFECTS.
•We’ve discovered three new genes linked to hormonal breast cancer, this is the most common form of the disease and accounts for four out of five tumours. This finding could lead to new ways to treat and prevent 37,500 cases of breast cancer each year.

We are helping women to DETECT BREAST CANCER EARLY.
•In a bid to increase the number of women regularly checking their breasts we launched iBreastCheck – the UK’s first iPhone app that encourages breast awareness. It’s already been downloaded by over 16,000 people from all over the world.

We are making breakthroughs. But there is so much more we need to do to stamp out breast cancer for good. Our goal, a future free from the fear of breast cancer, can only be achieved with your support.

Every Penny Counts, because Every Breakthrough Counts

At Breakthrough, we are so grateful of your contribution no matter how small.

Here are some examples of how your money is spent:
£5000 will provide lab equipment for one scientist for three months
£500 will sequence DNA from 250 women to identify those at high risk of developing breast cancer
£150 gives 150 women diagnosed with breast cancer vital information about services and treatment
£20 could help 500 women to know the signs and symptoms of breast cancer by supplying them with our Touch Look Check (TLC) mini guides
£1 provides three women with information on ways to reduce their risk of getting breast cancer
