biopsy

Used to collect tissue from a lump to be sent for microscopic examination. There are two main types:
• EXCISIONAL BIOPSY: Removal of the entire lump or mass for diagnostic purposes.
• INCISIONAL BIOPSY: Removing a small part of the lump or mass to make a diagnosis and plan further treatment.
