Glossary Term
tomography
A special type of x-ray examination where the x-ray camera and film will move during the 'exposure'. This allows parts of the body to be blurred (like the ribs) while keeping other structures at a different level in focus (like the lungs). Tomography allows pictures to be taken of difficult to see structures. CT stands for computerised tomography, where the x-ray camera moves in a circle around the patient.
