"We will change the way breast cancer is diagnosed, treated and managed."

Why support Breakthrough?

Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in the UK. Each year nearly 48,000 women are diagnosed with breast cancer and around 1,000 women die from the disease every month. We want to change this.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is dedicated to improving and saving lives through finding the causes of breast cancer, encouraging early detection, ensuring precise diagnosis, discovering new and better treatments and improving medical services.

None of our work would be possible without our supporters. Here are some of the remarkable breakthroughs they have helped us to achieve:
  • We've recruited over 100,000 women to the Breakthrough Generations Study so we can find the causes of breast cancer and prevent the disease in many cases.
  • We've developed a new drug with the potential to treat a third of all breast cancers. But that's not all – it may be effective in up to 80 percent of prostate, ovarian, skin, womb, and colon cancers too.
  • We've improved screening services for the over 2 million UK women screened through the NHS each year by ensuring screening services are high quality.
  • Over 15,000 patients have already experienced better care as the result of our work with local breast care units.

Looking to the future

But we don't want to stop here. We believe in a future where every patient will receive personalised treatment. A future where breast cancer is no longer a life-threatening disease. And ultimately, a future free from breast cancer.

By Going Pink you are helping to make this possible. Thank you!
