About us
The Isle of Man Group was set up in 1992 by a couple of women whose lives had been touched by breast cancer and so wanted to support Breakthrough Breast Cancer Research Centre in the UK, by raising funds and making more people aware of this disease. Over the years the Group size has grown bringing new members to the team. This in turn has increased the awareness of the charity and has become very successful in fundraising.
The Isle of Man Breakthrough Group funds the crucial work of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, the UK’s leading breast cancer charity.
Breakthrough is committed to fighting breast cancer through research, influencing and education and has established the UK’s first dedicated breast cancer research centre. Scientists at this centre are examining the causes of breast cancer as well as identifying new and gentler methods of treatment and prevention.
Breakthrough also campaigns for improvements for policies that support breast cancer research and better services and works locally to promote awareness of breast cancer on the Isle of Man.
Breakthrough has a vision of a future free from the fear of breast cancer!
Who we are and what we do
We are a group of 11 volunteers who have all been touched by breast cancer in one way or another - wanting to make a difference to other patients and supporters.
We campaign for services here in the Isle of Man, raise funds, and raise awareness. We educate people at social groups and schools to teach others what they should be checking for.
The money you donate to the Isle of Man Breakthrough Group will support the pioneering work of the UK’s leading breast cancer charity, Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
To help us to ensure the money you donate will make the greatest possible difference in the fight against breast cancer, it is important that your donation is not restricted to being used solely on the Island. This enables us to direct funds where they are most needed at the time and continue the vital work Breakthrough is undertaking. What’s more, placing restrictions on income means the administrative costs of Breakthrough are increased as there is a need to ensure these restrictions are adhered to. Not restricting your gift will therefore mean it goes that much further in helping Breakthrough move towards its vision of a future free from the fear of breast cancer.
