Who we are and what we do

The Breakthrough Babes are a voluntary group raising funds and awareness for Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Sutton Coldfield and the West Midlands. Our patron is Phil Upton of BBC WM.

Through the generosity of friends, family and the local community, we have now raised over £600,000 for Breakthrough so our next target has to be one million pounds!

Our group, which was established in 1997, is one of fifty voluntary Breakthrough Groups across the UK. We help to raise funds by holding all sorts of different events - from glamorous charity balls to car boot sales, from balloon releases to Christmas Fairs, from golf days to walks in the park - the main idea is to keep the FUN in fundraising!

We also help other people in our local community to get involved and support them in their fundraising too by supplying Breakthrough pins and pink ribbons, balloons, leaflets and collecting tins, by coming along to accept a cheque and talk about breast cancer awareness or simply to give a little advice.

Of course we are always glad of a little help ourselves too! If you can spare some time, have a particular talent, or can offer your services like photocopying or selling tickets for an event, we would love to hear from you! Just e mail info@breakthroughbabes.org.uk

Over the years we have had many lovely ladies in our group who have all contributed their time to help organise many successful and varied events.

How to help us

There are many ways you can help:

• you could organise your own event (a Pink Party, coffee morning or quiz night for example) - we can supply Breakthrough balloons and pins, give you a little advice or come along to support you.
• you can offer your time - whether we are collecting outside a supermarket or selling tickets for a glamorous ball, we always need a bit of help!
• can you bake cakes, paint signs, print tickets, deliver flyers, arrange flowers, donate raffle prizes?
• could you have a box of pink ribbons to sell at your workplace?
• you could ask your employer to 'adopt' us for a year and fundraise at work - we have lots of ideas to help you fundraise for us!
• and the simplest thing of all - just talk about Breakthrough to all your family and friends.
