The proportion of women likely to survive breast cancer for at least 10 years has jumped from less than 40% to 77%.
This is very positive news and is largely due to better awareness, better treatments and better screening available.
Sarah Rawlings, Head of Policy at Breakthrough Breast Cancer commented,
"More women than ever in the UK are surviving breast cancer thanks to better awareness, better screening and better treatments. We encourage women to be breast aware by regularly checking their breasts and getting anything unusual checked by their GP.
We also strongly recommend all women over the age of 50 attend breast screening as the earlier breast cancer is found, the better the chances of beating it.
We are also campaigning to ensure that all patients diagnosed with breast cancer have access to the services, treatments and care that will benefit them most, regardless of their age, through our Every Chance campaign."
