Dr Caitlin Palframan Policy Manager at Breakthrough Breast Cancer says:
"Although we know breast cancer is often linked with oestrogen this study does not prove that taking aspirin reduces a woman’s risk of breast cancer. However, Breakthrough hopes that further studies will be done to explore this as learning how different factors affect the body may get us closer to understanding how to prevent the disease.
As we don’t yet know for sure whether anti-inflammatory drugs like aspirin may reduce breast cancer risk, and they can have serious side-effects, we do not recommend women regularly take them. Breakthrough encourages women to talk to their doctor before taking any medicine regularly."
