Chancellor George Osborne’s budget set out the Coalition Government’s spending priorities over the next 12 months.
There were several positive moves made to support research, the NHS and help charities maximise their income in tough economic times.
Good news for research:
• Better information about clinical trials and a new agency to streamline clinical trials process
• More information for the public on clinical trials
• Investment in translational research so science can benefit patients sooner.
Good news for charities:
• 10% inheritance tax discount for those leaving at least 10% of estate to charity in their will
• Gift Aid simplified and improved
Chris Askew, Chief Executive of Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: “We are pleased the Government is taking steps to benefit breast cancer patients when money is tight. Measures introduced in this Budget could help bring new treatments to patients more quickly, something we are totally committed to doing.
“Changes to Gift Aid and giving through wills could make a difference to all charities, so that has got to be welcomed.”
