Dr Caitlin Palframan, Policy Manager at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, comments:

“This study is a vital step forward in helping us understand the complex link between HRT and breast cancer risk.

We already know that taking HRT can increase a woman’s breast cancer risk, but this study suggests that the timing of starting HRT may play a crucial role in determining this risk.

This is positive news for women as they need as much information as possible to make informed decisions about whether and when to take HRT. We encourage women to talk to their doctors about all the risks and benefits and make a decision that is right for them."
