Meg McArthur, Senior Policy Officer at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said: "This study confirms that removing sentinal lymph nodes rather than many lymph nodes in breast cancer patients does not effect overall survival. This is good for patients because this is a less aggressive technique which could mean fewer patients develop unpleasant side effects, such as lymphoedema. Anyone concerned about their breast cancer treatment should speak to their doctor."
