On the evening of 15 May, over 15,000 women and men took part in Walk the Walk’s world famous MoonWalk, raising money for breast cancer research and cancer care from which Breakthrough is grateful to benefit.

We were delighted that amongst the 15,000 were a whole host of long term Breakthrough supporters including our corporate partners such as M&S and Avon and from our Breakthrough Groups the Cotswolds Cupcakes and Bec’s Babes. All setting themselves the amazing challenge of walking either a half or full marathon through the night.

Through donations from 13 previous MoonWalks, Walk the Walk has kindly chosen to support Breakthrough and continue to fund the essential work of our research centre as well as supporting the Breakthrough Generations Study, the world’s largest and most comprehensive study of the causes of breast cancer.

Breakthrough is very grateful to Nina Barough, Founder of the MoonWalk and all their staff and supporters. Walker Amanda Jones describes what it means to her “My family and I are so proud to be part of this incredible fundraising extravaganza for breast cancer. Between us, we have taken part in 20 MoonWalks. Each one has given us challenges, companionship, fun and a great sense of achievement.”

Over 250,000 people have taken part in a Walk the Walk event, raising in excess of £55 million pounds. “Thank you for the opportunity to be part of a great event and to contribute in a small way to the incredible work that you do,” says walker Wendy Hamp, a senior manager at Avon.

Twenty-five staff members also had fun volunteering in the kitchens at this year’s MoonWalk, including Jeremy Hughes, Breakthrough’s Chief Executive. “Having walked last year, this year I joined the hundreds of dedicated volunteers who kept everything running (or rather walking) smoothly through the night. Serving thousands of pasta meals to women – and men – in decorated bras made it an unforgettable night!"

Our thanks as always to Walk the Walk, Breakthrough is proud to be associated with such a truly amazing event.
