Dr Sarah Rawlings, Head of Policy at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, said:
"These positive results are encouraging and we hope that this upward trend will continue.
Breast screening services are a vital part of early diagnosis and the earlier cancer is diagnosed the better the chances of successful treatment. We strongly encourage all women to attend their screening appointments when invited."
