Too much money is wasted on short term savings rather than long term planning and if the NHS is to keep track with the country’s health needs, it needs to redefine value for money and patient care.
Together the charities have created a report, How to deliver high-quality, patient-centred, cost-effective care, which identifies five key areas for improvement.
Maggie Alexander, Director of Policy, Education and Influencing at Breakthrough Breast Cancer said: "This voluntary sector vision identifies examples of innovative healthcare, such as the Breakthrough Service Pledge, that put patients at the centre of decision-making about services. Breakthrough Breast Cancer, alongside other health charities, is calling on national politicians and local commissioners to use this new report as a guide to help meet the challenge of providing better outcomes for patients at a time of funding difficulties."
