There is nothing more important than being ‘breast aware’. Speaking about my experience in magazines has helped me spread the word.

Amanda Scott
At the age of 32 I found a lump in my breast and was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was a terrifying time but I was so glad I had caught it early. After a lumpectomy and lymph gland removal I had 6 months of chemotherapy and looked forward to life getting back to normal. But when the chemo had come to an end they found cancer again in the same breast and I had to have a mastectomy. It was a stressful time but thankfully now I'm in the clear. I couldn't have got through it without my son, Harry, and husband, Dave, who have both been incredibly supportive.

There is nothing more important than being ‘breast aware’. Speaking about my experience in magazines has helped me spread the word.

This award, and the publicity that went with it, has given me the opportunity to tell other women about my experience and show them that they aren't alone.

Breast cancer can be a devastating disease but the earlier we catch it, the easier it is to treat. I would urge every woman to be 'breast aware' - it's easy to do and could make a real difference.
