After loosing my mum to breast cancer I looked into my family background and discovered that she was the 5th case of breast cancer within the family.

After consulting a geneticist, I was told that I had an increased risk of developing breast cancer. After many chats with my husband, we decided that the way forward for us was preventative surgery.

I am now feeling good after finishing reconstruction and I am trying to get on with my life without fear of breast cancer. I am really pleased with all the decisions we made as a family.

My advice to any woman who is in the same position as me would be to get as much information, advice and support from medical professionals and other women who have been through it. Talk about your thoughts and worries, and then make your own decision based on these. Remember - it has to be right for you.
