Great Walk of China Participant

The walk itself was such an incredible experience – stunning scenery and both a physical and mental challenge. Not only do I have a sense of achievement for myself but also the satisfaction of knowing I have helped others.

I heard a talk on the radio about a charity walk along the Great Wall of China and I thought - I'd like to do that! I am very fit and do plenty of exercise - walking the dog, line-dancing and swimming. When I discovered that Breakthrough was the charity organising the walk in China, the idea of going there myself stared to become a reality.

I had lost a close friend and a sister-in law to breast cancer so I know I wanted to help raise money for a charity that supports others fighting breast cancer.

When I began fundraising I was amazed by the response! So many people seemed to know someone who had been affected by breast cancer and donations came from unexpected quarters. Friends organised a race evening which raised £1100 and a line-dancing event that raised another £1000. Guests at a Murder Mystery Evening donated £200 and a coffee morning raised £250.

Altogether I raised £2840. I got to walk the Great Wall of China and I have a certificate to prove it!

The walk itself was such an incredible experience – stunning scenery and both a physical and mental challenge. Not only do I have a sense of achievement for myself but also the satisfaction of knowing I have helped others.

I will continue to fundraise and maybe in the future take another Charity Challenge.
