TRUE STORY

Wendy Gerraghty

Breakthrough Supporter

I wanted to raise funds that would go directly to research into the causes and hopefully the prevention of breast cancer

Wendy Gerraghty
In February 2001, I was a 48-year-old working mother, who suddenly found out that she had breast cancer.

Having had such tremendous support from family, friends and colleagues, I wanted to thank them. So for my 50th birthday, I decided to hold a party to celebrate my return to good health.

I invited everyone I knew and asked for donations for breast cancer research instead of presents. The night was a fantastic success; we had a disco and buffet at Shirley Community Centre and everyone was extremely generous, even those who couldn’t make it on the night kindly sent in donations by post.

We raised a fabulous £740.00 on the night and £420.00 was donated from Lloyds TSB Foundation where I’m employed. With some further money from my son Andrews school charity show, we raised a total of £1500.
