How we produce health information

We have an experienced team dedicated to producing health information and we follow the best principles to develop and update materials. When planning new materials, we work closely with real women to understand the information they wish to see and the best way this can be presented. Our policy experts perform a detailed review of the latest scientific and clinical evidence, including best practice guidelines, clinical trial findings and research papers.

Members of the public (including some of our Campaigns & Advocacy Network members) review our health materials to confirm that they find them useful and easy to understand. In addition, experts in the field, such as researchers, nurses, doctors, radiologists and surgeons, review our health materials to confirm that they are accurate, balanced and up to date. We’d like to thank all our reviewers for the crucial help they provide.

Keeping our information up to date

We review and update our health information at least once every three years. We keep abreast of the latest scientific and clinical advances so that, if needed, we can update our information sooner. As we update our health materials, we are adding the Information Standard logo.

Our health information is not a substitute for personal advice from healthcare professionals. Anyone worried about their health should discuss this with a healthcare professional.

Breakthrough Breast Cancer is responsible for the accuracy of the information on this website. Neither Capita, who operate the Information Standard scheme, nor the Department of Health, who own the scheme, will have any responsibility for costs, losses or damages arising from the information being inaccurate or from us failing to include relevant information.
