Second Supporter Wall 2011

Breakthrough’s Supporter Walls are a special way for us to celebrate the fantastic fundraising achievements of every one of our supporters in Scotland who raises over £1,000.  To say thank you for supporting our work they can nominate a name of their choice to be displayed in our Edinburgh Research Unit.  Supporters can nominate any name they want - someone who inspired their fundraising, someone they may have lost and want to remember and celebrate, an organisation's name or even their own name.

Here's Ben, one of our fantastic scientists from the Edinburgh Unit and a Breakthrough £1,000 Challenger, pointing to the names he nominated:

Over 80 supporters who had each raised over £1,000 joined us for the unveiling to celebrate their fundraising success.  They had the chance to see their name (or names in some cases!) on the Wall as well as meeting our fantastic scientists and seeing first hand how their donations are being put to use with a tour of our research unit.  It was also an opportunity for the Breakthrough team to say a huge thank you to everyone in person. 

Those who came along also got the chance to hear from Audrey Birt, Director for Scotland and Professor Mike Dixon, breast surgeon and Clinical Lead of the research unit.  They talked about the progress Breakthrough has made in Scotland and the huge importance of supporters’ fundraising - without which our progress towards new and better treatments for breast cancer would not be possible.

It was a hugely inspiring day for everyone involved.   In order to continue our life-saving work we need even more people to take on the challenge of raising £1,000 for Breakthrough.
