Breakthrough Breast Cancer welcomes the Prime Minster’s commitment at the Labour Party Conference to delivering both the Government’s 2005 election promise ensuring every person with breast problems referred by their GP is seen by a specialist within two weeks as well as an extension to both the upper and lower age range for breast screening.
These commitments respond to Breakthrough's Left in the Dark and Screening Saves Lives campaigns that our supporters across the country have been raising with their MPs and local health services.

Secretary of State for Health Alan Johnson's announcement of recruiting more specialist nurses is also welcomed. Breakthrough Breast Cancer, in partnership with Breast Cancer Care and the Royal College of Nursing, have been working hard to highlight the value special breast care nurses and possible threats to their posts due to NHS reform and financial deficits.

Breakthrough campaigns for improvements in breast cancer services, treatments and research

Our methods are diverse, ranging from parliamentary work and grass roots campaigning by members of the Breakthrough Campaigns and Advocacy Network (Breakthrough CAN) to forming partnerships with health professionals other cancer charities.

The approach that unites all of our campaigns is Rights and Realities. This means that our overarching aim is to plug the gap between the standard of breast cancer services we believe women with breast cancer have a right to receive and the reality of existing services.

Under the Rights and Realities banner Breakthrough works on a number of key campaigns that you can read more about here.
