Breakthrough at Party Conferences 2008

Jeremy Hughes, Chief Executive at Conservative Party Conference 2008As we do every year, this autumn, Breakthrough attended the party conferences to talk directly to Ministers, shadow politicians, back-benchers and policy-makers about our work to ensure that breast cancer is kept high on the political agenda of all parties. We travelled from Bournemouth to Manchester to Birmingham and were delighted to be accompanied at each of the three conferences by a member of our Campaigns and Advocacy Network.

We had a successful series of meetings with politicians, other charities and organisations working on cancer and health related issues and held a series of thought-provoking fringe meetings on the issue of personalisation of health services with the Picker Institute, UNISON, the Family Planning Association and the Association of British Healthcare Industries. We were delighted to be joined at our fringes by Health Minister Dawn Primarolo in Manchester, Liberal Democrat spokesperson Baroness Barker of Anagach in Bournemouth and Shadow Health Minister Mark Simmonds in Birmingham.
