Breakthrough Generations Study
The ultimate aim of the Breakthrough Generations Study is to identify the causes of breast cancer.
Why are we interested?
We need to understand the causes of the disease to reduce the risk for
future generations.
How are we investigating this?
We have launched the UK's largest study into the causes of breast cancer, and will be studying 100,000 women for several decades to identify factors which may increase breast cancer risk. More can be found on the Breakthrough Generations Study section.
Who is carrying out this study?
This is a collaborative study between Breakthrough Breast Cancer and The Institute of Cancer Research. It is headed by the world-class scientists Professor Alan Ashworth, Director of the Breakthrough Research Centre, and Professor Anthony Swerdlow, Head of Epidemiology at The Institute of Cancer Research.Progress
We are currently collecting information from the female participants in the study and securely storing it for future analysis.
