Preventing breast cancer

Being able to prevent breast cancer will greatly reduce the fear of breast cancer - the ultimate goal of Breakthrough.
Prevention is better than healing because it saves the labour of being sick.

Thomas Adams, seventeenth-century
physician
Much of the fear surrounding breast cancer is in the fact that there are no simple means to prevent the disease. Understanding the causes of the disease will enable us to develop preventative methods for the general population as well as those who are at high risk of the disease.

The Breakthrough Generations Study is the most comprehensive study into the causes of breast cancer ever undertaken. Through this study we hope to obtain more detailed and reliable information on the causes of breast cancer than ever before - information that will shed light on how this disease might be prevented in future.
