Breakthrough comment on new research suggesting a link between aspirin and breast cancer risk
New research, published in the journal Breast Cancer Research, suggests that taking an aspirin a day may reduce a woman’s risk of developing breast cancer.
Dr Sarah Cant, Policy Manager at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, says;
“The potential of anti-inflammatory drugs, such as aspirin, to lower the chances of developing breast cancer is interesting but we still don't have conclusive evidence. As the researchers say, further investigation is needed to determine this.
“Anti-inflammatory drugs can have potentially serious side-effects when taken over a long period. Until the long-term effects of taking these drugs for breast cancer prevention are known, we would urge women worried about their risk of breast cancer to talk to their GP.”
