Bill Freedman

Bill Freedman
I am so proud of what my family started and thrilled at the way it is being so successfully managed more than fifteen years on.

Bill Freedman
Breakthrough Breast Cancer's founder. Bill's wife, the actress Toby Robins, sadly died of breast cancer at an early age, leaving behind a young family who were determined to do something positive.

Bill, with his previous experience of fundraising and excellent contacts, consulted with the best minds around and was eventually introduced to Barry Gusterson who had the idea of building a research centre to focus solely on breast cancer, bringing together scientific excellence in a holistic way to look at the problems of breast cancer from all angles.

The fundraising challenge was to raise a massive £15m for a new breast cancer research facility and, in 1999, the Breakthrough Toby Robins Breast Cancer Research Centre was opened.
