Why campaign?

The Government is keen to involve patients and the public in shaping local health services so that they truly reflect the needs of the community they serve. At the same time, it wants to create an NHS that is locally driven, locally responsive and locally accountable.
So the local NHS is being given more responsibility by the Government for the design and delivery of local health services and has a duty to involve and consult patients when planning services.
All of this means that local campaigning and influencing is becoming more and more important and there is more opportunity than ever for you to have your say in improving breast cancer services and treatments in your area.
And that’s why we’ve produced this Handbook – to provide a step by step guide to ensuring that your own breast cancer campaign will be as effective as possible. Breakthrough CAN members have been involved in putting the Handbook together, so we hope you’ll find everything you need to become a successful CAN campaigner.
We always like to hear from our campaigners – contact us if you want to talk through anything or need some advice or support – or if there’s anything else you think should be included in this Handbook.
