CAN members attend American advocacy conference
In April Amanda Love, Jane Hughes and Amanda Jones, three of Breakthrough’s Campaigns & Advocacy Network (CAN) members, attended the National Breast Cancer Coalition’s (NBCC) Annual Advocacy Training Conference in Washington.
NBCC, the largest breast cancer advocacy group in America, encourages breast cancer advocates to lobby for improvements to breast cancer research, diagnosis and treatment.
At the conference Amanda, Jane and Amanda heard about current breast cancer issues from important leaders, scientists and advocates.
Along with over 600 delegates they found out the latest information on breast cancer research, quality care and access, and current political updates about healthcare.
Over three packed days they attended workshops including What’s new in breast cancer and Being an advocate – not so easy, and took part in meetings at Capitol Hill where advocates lobbied members of Congress.
Jane attended a workshop called Expanding your advocacy network, and described it as, “an interesting workshop with some good ideas for expanding your own advocacy network.
“I found this workshop very useful and would like to think about some of the ideas and how they could be adapted for advocates here.”
