Here's a list of our Breakthrough Groups in south east England. They would love to hear from you and have lots of fundraising experience to share so please do give them a call!

The South Hampshire Group was started by Michelle Harris in 2004. Their first event was a ceramic painting evening, and they have since raised over £10,000 with pink tennis tournaments, a pamper evening and a ball.

They've got lots more planned, including a barn dance in October and more pink tennis events.

Chaired by Iris Heard, the Group have organised several events including an opera and jazz night.

The London Central Group is Breakthrough's biggest fundraising Group. The Group have raised almost £500,000 to support Breakthrough's vital work and are famous for their spectacular twice yearly lunches at top London hotels, as well as their glamourous fashion shows, Ascot Day and much more! Their lunches have a regular following and are almost always sold out, so get in quick if you're keen to reserve your place!

The London Central Breakthrough Group's next luncheon will be taking place on Thursday 7 December at the Royal Lancaster Hotel. Further details of the event can be found in our events listings.

Run by Jai Mahadeo, the London Harrow Group organise all sorts of events in the Harrow area, from pink and purple days to sponsored walks and quizzes. The Group is made up of three members who have raised nearly £30,000 for Breakthrough to date!

The Group's next event is a quiz, to be held on Saturday 21 May 2005.

Maureen Lubert and Audrey Phillips run the Wembley Breakthrough Group. The Group was set up in 2000 and since then, they have organised a charity dinner, sponsored walk and a Dress for Success evening (among other fabulous events!).

The West London Breakthrough Group was set up by Aimee DuFresne in October 2005. Aimee set up the Group to help make a difference to those touched by breast cancer. She says: "Both my mum and my aunt are survivors of breast cancer and I know how crucial fundraising is to help raise awareness and funds to improve the treatment of women with breast cancer now and into the future. By starting my own Breakthrough Group, I would like to help raise awareness in my area while meeting new people and having fun at the same time."

Aimee is looking for enthusiastic and creative individuals to join the Group. As a member of the Group, you would help Aimee fundraise and raise awareness of Breakthrough in Hounslow and play a vital role in helping us towards our ultimate aim of a future free from the fear of breast cancer.

The Milton Keynes Breakthrough Group was founded in January 2007 after raising over £900 for Breakthrough during 2006.

The Group already has eight very enthusiastic members, and are planning a busy fundraising schedule for this year to include a plaster push; a fashion show; summer carnival float; and an Autumn Ball.

The North Hertfordshire and South Cambridgeshire Breakthrough Group was founded in August 2006 by mother and daughter, Val Whyborn and Hayley McKenzie. The pair have been fundraising for Breakthrough as £1,000 Challengers since 2000 and have already raised over £14,000 to fund Breakthrough's pioneering research and education work.

The South Buckinghamshire Breakthrough Group are based in the Princes Risborough area and regularly hold balls and lunches for Breakthrough.

The Stock Essex Breakthrough Group was set up by Maureen Tyrer in May 2005. The Group is made up of 19 women and meet at Greenwoods Health Spa and Retreat in Stock.

The Suffolk Group, which was set up in 2001, is run by Ollie Hatcher. The Group has raised over £130,000 organising balls, collections, sponsored walks and even a tennis tournament. They are a very active Group and some members regularly participate in the Flora London Marathon and the Playtex Moonwalk.



The Suffolk Group are currently organising another tennis tournament in September of this year. If you would like to get involved or find out more about the Suffolk Breakthrough Group, please call Ollie on 01394 38 2126 or email the Suffolk Group.

The North West Kent Group was started in October 2006 by a group of Eltham College mothers, as a result of the death of one of their friends, Rachel Jones, in 2004.

The Group covers a wide area, centred around the London Borough of Bromley, but also taking in Kent as far south as Tunbridge Wells and Maidstone, and as far east as Gillingham, plus south-east London (excluding the London Boroughs of Greenwich & Bexley, which have their own Group). However, if you live in the part of Kent not covered by the Group, you are still welcome at their events.

They have held a number of fundraising activities since their formation, including a coffee morning, raffle, Christmas card sale, cheese & wine evening, 2nd hand book sale and Crocus Walk. One of their members has run the London Marathon in aid of Breakthrough, and a small team will be tackling the Aviva Walk London in September 2007, a gruelling 44 kilometre challenge.
