Cotswold Breakthrough Group

The Cotswold Breakthrough Group was set up in June 2005 by Eira Hooper. Eira was diagnosed with breast cancer in Autumn 2004 and is determined to raise money to fund research into breast cancer. On setting up the Group, Eira said "It is something positive that I felt I could do. Breast cancer is hideous, it is every women's worst nightmare but raising money for research into the cause and ultimately a cure for this dreadful disease is empowering."

The Group are supported by their Patron, Lady Apsley, and have raised over £20,000 in their first 6 months. Over the coming months the Group have many events lined up. For further details of the Groups events over the coming months check our Breakthrough's events diary.

If you would like to join the Group or find out more about what they have planned for 2005, please contact Jill Amplett on 01202 393 441.

Dorset Dorchester Breakthrough Group

The Dorchester Group is one of Breakthrough's most established regional Groups. They have been fundraising for Breakthrough for over ten years and have enormously boosted Breakthrough's profile in Dorset.

Lesley Elliot, the Group's founder, was hugely instrumental in getting Breakthrough known and making it acceptable to talk publicly about breast cancer. Lesley made a documentary 'Living with Lesley' for Channel Four some years ago. Unfortunately, Lesley lost her battle with breast cancer in 1994.

The Group, working with the people of Dorset, carried on Lesley's work and have now raised over £1 million!

Plymouth Breakthrough Group

The Plymouth Breakthrough Group was set up by Christine Whyte in May 2005. Christine was horrified to discover that over 1,000 women die from breast cancer every month in the UK alone and decided to set up a Group in Plymouth.

The Group held their first meeting on 20 May 2005 and have lots of great ideas for their fundraising over the coming years, from sponsored walks to treasure hunts and bonus balls!

Sherborne Breakthrough Group

The Sherborne Group was successfully launched on Friday 25 November 2005 at the home of Bridgett Wilson. Over a hundred well-wishers joined the Group for an all day celebration and since then over 60 people have signed up to join their Friendship Group.

The Sherborne Group

The Group aims not only to raise money and local awareness of Breakthrough but also to give support to those who have had breast cancer. The Group are also actively campaigning for improvements in services for breast cancer patients locally including supporting Breakthrough's campaign to increase the availability of mammograms to those over 70.

In the year ahead, the Group are having a Drinks Reception on Friday September 1st at St Antony's School, Leweston. They will be attending the run which the UK Cancer Charity are holding at Sherborne Castle in July and we hope to organise a Walk for Breakthrough in 2007.

If you would like to join the Sherborne Friendship Group or would like to find out more about how to get involved, please contact Mrs Bridgett Wilson on 01935 813201.

Wiltshire Breakthrough Group

Wiltshire group fashion show 2003Breakthrough Breast Cancer in Wiltshire was launched in June 1995 and is one of Breakthrough's largest Regional Groups. From the very beginning the Group's motto has been to "keep the Fun in Fundraising" and as regional Group contact Shirley Garman says "this has certainly been one of the reasons that we have been so successful".

On 10th January 2003 the Group announced that it had raised its first quarter on a million pounds but has no intention of stopping there. They have lots of plans in the pipeline for 2005 and their aim is to raise a further £50,000 each year.

The Wiltshire Group is always looking for more support, either on a regular basis or for 'one off' fundraising event, perhaps you have a special talent, for example producing posters, are qualified to audit accounts, or can help with transport to or from events.

If you do not feel you are a 'team player' why not organise an event yourself or persuade your employers to fundraise for us. The Group provides materials as well as support to ensure that you succeed and we guarantee that you will have fun on the way!!

If you have some spare time and feel you can help the Group in any way or want details of future fundraising events then please contact Shirley on 01793 538 475 or email the Wiltshire Breakthrough Group.
