Tips on how to sell lots of pins & charms
I saw the pins advertised and thought I would get a box. I sold the first box in a couple of days so ordered another, and another, and another. Soon friends, family, colleagues and local shops and cafes were selling them with me. Within a few weeks several hundred had been sold and I realised that fundraising was easy, fun and a great way to spread the word about Breakthrough.

- Start with family and friends - ask if they would be prepared to help you sell pins and charms. It doesn't have to be a whole box, they can each sell a few. 10 people selling 5 each is a whole box sold. Encourage a bit of healthy competition and award a small prize for whoever sells the most.
- Display a box on your reception at work or in your staffroom. Follow this up with an email to all your colleagues with a gentle reminder that for just £1 they can be sporting this season's must-have accessory and support Breakthrough Breast Cancer.
- Holding your own fundraising event this Breast Cancer Awareness Month? Perhaps you have a coffee morning planned or even a ball – you could order a box for your event.
- Ask in your local shops, cafes, beauty salons and hairdressers if they would display a box on on their counter. Remind them that it is a simple and effective way for them to show their customers that they are supporting a great cause. Remember also that places are often more willing to display a box if you give them a specific time slot you would like them to display the box for e.g for four weeks in October.
- Ask at your local school / library / community hall / doctors surgery / breast care unit if they would be happy to display a box on their reception or even in their staff rooms. Displaying the pins and charms in places where the local community gather not only helps with your fundraising but also raises awareness of Breakthrough during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.
- If you are successful in finding homes for your boxes across your local community please remember to check up regularly as whether there is any money to collect and to see whether any top ups are needed (these can easily be ordered from Liz on 0207 025 2431 or by email at pinkpins@breakthrough.org.uk). Please also ensure that the boxes and donations are kept as safe as possible.
